"I’ve spent years interviewing founders, creators, and leaders, and one thing is almost always true: before anyone becomes extraordinary, they spend a long time feeling uncertain, overlooked, or unfinished. Before You Knew Us captures that universal experience beautifully. Joshua Blumenthal has written a moving exploration of the early lives and inner struggles that shape greatness long before the spotlight arrives."
— Guy Raz, Creator/Host How I Built This

"Before you Knew Us is a chance to dig a little deeper into the story behind the story of these visionary titans! Success leaves clues and how we begin our lives helps to inform what comes next....a true delight to read!"

"If you really want to understand someone, you have to learn how it all began for them and what motivations shaped their first steps. Josh shares these stories beautifully in Before You Knew Us."

— Kate Sullivan, Host, To Dine For

“Blumenthal’s brisk, moving chapter on Ruth Bader Ginsburg goes deep on the fundamental paradox that allowed for this tiny, polite, cautious lawyer to become one of the 21st Century’s most vital feminist icons. Ginsburg was both transformational and deeply rational, and while we will fight over the particulars of her legacy for years to come, Blumenthal is careful to continue where she herself left off: by reminding his reader that RBG stood on the shoulders of giants, and also that every single one of us has an obligation to ensure that the Constitution she dreamed can remain a reality.”
